Novak Djokovic is a six-time ATP Finals winner, sharing the record with Roger Federer. Novak has won 47 matches at the premium ATP event, including all five 12 months ago, returning this week as the defending champion. Alongside notable wins, Djokovic also experienced some painful losses at the ATP Finals.

The most brutal one came in the 2016 final against Andy Murray, losing the title and the year-end no. 1 honor! Novak secured his fourth consecutive Major title at Roland Garros that year, with the Briton catching the Serb with a brilliant run in the second part of the season.

Two great rivals reached the ATP Finals title clash, with a winner securing the year-end no. 1 award. The home favorite defeated Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 43 minutes, lifting his only ATP Finals trophy and becoming the year-end no.

Novak Djokovic lost the 2016 ATP Finals title match, missing the year-end no. 1 spot.

Andy tamed his strokes nicely and welcomed Novak’s 30 unforced errors. Murray dropped serve once from the only chance offered to Djokovic and created nine break points.

The Briton seized three, taking charge from the middle of the opening set and notching two great honors. Also, it remains Andy’s most recent notable title. Murray beat Djokovic for the first time on an indoor court and the third from the previous 16 duels, finding the winning formula against the most challenging opponent.

The Briton preserved the energy after two marathons that reached three and a half hours, playing well in the final and sealing the deal in straight sets. Murray earned the victory in the shortest and most extended exchanges, defending his second serve nicely and overpowering the rival.

They served well in the early stages before Djokovic experienced issues in game six. He saved two break points and held after four deuces, locking the result at 3-3. Andy pushed strong on the return again in game eight, securing a break and moving 5-3 in front.

Murray held in game nine, wrapping up the opener and gaining a boost. Not stopping there, the Briton broke in the second set’s first game, converting the fourth break opportunity. With nothing working his way, Novak dropped serve again in the fifth game, falling 6-3, 4-1 behind.

Djokovic had to respond quickly, and he secured his only break in game six to reduce the deficit after Murray’s wayward forehand. The Serb served well in the seventh game, moving 4-3 behind and hoping for more return chances.

Instead, Andy held at 15 in game eight, opening a 5-3 gap and moving closer to the finish line. Djokovic secured the ninth game with a comfortable hold, and Murray served for the victory at 5-4. Novak stepped in and defended two match points with winners.

Andy earned the third match point and emerged over the top with a booming serve, celebrating a notable title and the year-end no. 1 honor.
