England pulled off a remarkable win on a dead pitch

Pakistan then posted 579 all out, meaning the draw looked inevitable, but the visitors smashed 264-7 before declaring to set up the possibility of a win or loss.

The hosts set about chasing down 343 on a flat wicket.

But a brilliant bowling display and brave captaincy ensured that Brendon McCullum’s men got all ten wickets in the second innings to win by 74 runs.

This was one of England’s greatest Test victories and they can now win the series in Multan.

A wave of sickness hit England just before the first Test and while most of the players recovered, Ben Foakes didn’t.

The wicketkeeper has now recovered but hasn’t been selected, meaning Ollie Pope will keep the gloves.

Mark Wood also missed the game at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium through a hip injury picked up during the T20 World Cup.

But he has returned to the England XI in place of Liam Livingstone, who will return to England after injuring his knee on his Test debut.

Meanwhile, Pakistan might be tempted to shuffle their pack in an attempt to rescue the series but haven’t named their team yet.

Pakistan v England: What has been said?

England Test captain Ben Stokes on Wood’s inclusion in the second Test: “Having someone in your squad who can bowl at 150 km/h is a massive bonus for any team around the world, especially as Pakistan is a very hard place to come and win.

“Having someone of his calibre and what he brings will be massive for us. It will add to our ability to take 20 wickets.”
