Roberto Martinez is set to include Cristiano Ronaldo in his squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, according to reports.
Portugal take on Liechtenstein and Iceland, with Ronaldo expected to play a key role in both games.
According to the The Athletic, Martinez has held discussions with the forward before then deciding to call him up.
The report adds Ronaldo refused to be drawn on his international future, following his fallout with ex-manager Fernando Santos.
Ronaldo’s Portugal were dumped out of the World Cup by Morocco in the semi-finals last year.
It remained to be seen whether he five-time Ballon d’Or winner would hang up his boots for his country, but that does not seem to be the case.
Since then, Ronaldo has left Manchester United, and joined Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al Nassr, netting eight goals in nine games.
A return to the fold with his national would see him play under his fifth Portugal boss, following Martinez’s appointment back in January.
“We’re going to start a footballing process to try to get to know all the players that could make it to the national team,” said Martinez.
“We’re going to give all the players an opportunity and respect all those who are already in the national team. Cristiano is one of them.
“I’m delighted to be able to have them by my side. It’s a process that we have to face naturally, with responsibility, and we’re going to make important decisions for the team.”
Ronaldo has 196-caps on the international stage, and is joint top with Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa, while also scoring a record 118 times.
Since the World Cup, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia where he has scored eight times in nine appearances.
However, he is currently without a goal in his last three games.
