During Holger Rune’s second-round match at the Rome Open. the young star missed a very easy smash from near the net. Surprised by the error, both the crowd and Rune’s opponent, Fabio Fognini, started laughing.

The video went viral and the comments started flowing.

“not easy to miss that one,” Rune himself commented on the video of the missed shot. “This was a big miss, but more interesting is how he could manage to stay focused after that and close the match,” said Rune’s former coach Patrick Mouratoglou on Instagram.

Holger Rune went past his mistake and won the match in straight sets (6/4, 6/2). Here are some of the reactions of other tennis fans to the video:

Holger Rune about the Rome atmosphere

After the encounter against Fognini, Holger spoke to Tennis Channel and described his feelings, as follows: “Here in Rome I feel good, my level is improving more and more and I can say that I am improving match after match.

Right now I’m doing everything possible to get to the Roland Garros in the best possible way and from this point of view Rome can really help me a lot. There is great energy here. There was a crazy atmosphere, the crowd was incredible, especially towards the end of the first set.

It’s more fun for me to play like this than without a crowd, Fognini is also great. Tennis needs characters like him, he takes tennis to another level.”
