Serena Williams attended the Pre-Grammy Gala preceding the 66th Grammy Awards to present one of her favorite bands of all time, Green Day. Serena also got to enjoy performances from artists like the Isley Brothers, Maluma, and Gladys Knight.

“When @billiejoearmstrong calls you to present their band, you jump on a plane and do it,” Serena announced on Instagram.

The tennis icon wore a black dress with golden sleeves matched with golden earrings and rings.

The dress code chosen by Serena was, as she put it, “less talk more gold please.”

During the Clives Davis Gala held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California, Serena also took a photo with the CEO of the Recording Academy Harvey Mason jr.

Serena Williams has been a Green Day fan for a long time.

No surprise here. But did you know what are her favorite songs from the band? Here is the now-retired American tennis legend listing her top Green Day tracks:

  1. American Idiot
  2. Basket Case
  3. Boulevard of Broken Dreams
  4. Time of Your Life

In 2020, Serena watched Billie Joe Armstrong perform during the IHeart Living Room Concert for America held to aid Feeding America in gathering funds and delivering some quality entertainment to all the people in confinement during the Covid pandemic.

“I figure if we have to spend this time in isolation at least we can be alone together,” said Armstrong at the time.

Who introduced Serena to Green Day for the 1st time

The very first time Serena met with the Green Day band was at one of Jimmy Kimmel’s shows.

As payback, Serena Williams gave Kimmel and his children a Wimbledon tour in 2012 during the Summer Olympics held in London. “We would run into her in different countries in Europe because she was kicking everybody’s ass in that particular country,” said Armstrong.

“She would then come to the show and…Well, I think she would literally try to see how fast she could beat her opponent so she could actually come to the gig”.

Serena’s other music taste

Besides Green Day, Serena is known as a big-time Beyonce fan.

In fact, Serena even featured in Beyonce’s music video called “Lemonade”.

Serena explained that she owes the cameo in the music clip to Beyonce and the video’s director, who she had been knowing since she was “like nine years old.” Per Williams, she was requested to just dance like “nobody’s looking”, which she found funny and enjoyable.

And if Serena helped Beyonce with her music video, Beyonce also lent a hand to the King Richard movie, a biography that explores the rise to glory of the Williams sisters.
