Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia, located at the extreme southern tip of the Malay peninsula, 152 km north of the equator. It is spread over an archipelago made up of 58 islands, the largest and most important of which is the island of Singapore which hosts the metropolis.

In the north Singapore is separated from Malaysia by the Strait of Johor, in the south it is separated from the Indonesian Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait. It is the fourth largest financial center in the world and is one of the major cosmopolitan cities of the globe, playing an important role in international trade and finance.

Its port is among the top five for activity and traffic on a global scale. Singapore has a long history of immigration. The population is diverse; the more than five million inhabitants are composed mainly of Chinese, Malays, Indians and other descendants of Asians and Europeans.

42% of the population is foreign, present here for work or study. Foreign workers make up 50% of the service sector. Singapore is the second most densely populated country in the world after Monaco. In 2009 it reached the highest concentration of millionaires in relation to the population, surpassing Hong Kong, Switzerland, Qatar and Kuwait.

Singapore’s climate in the Köppen climate classification is equatorial since it has no distinct seasons (rain-dry), with uniformity of temperature and pressure, high humidity and abundant rainfall (the equatorial line is in fact close, only 152 kilometers ).

The minimum and maximum average annual temperatures range from 22-23° to 33-34 °C. On average, the extremes of relative humidity are: 95% in the late night and early morning and 60% in the afternoon. During the rainiest periods, the humidity can settle for the whole day close to 90% or even slightly exceed this figure.

The officially recorded minimum and maximum temperatures recorded historically were 19.4°C and 36.7°C, respectively.
