Tyson Fury has revealed that he could now have surgery on an injured right elbow which would force him to delay his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
The Gypsy King gave multiple interviews after his win over Derek Chisora on Saturday night and provided mixed messages.
In one breath, Fury said he may now need surgery that would seemingly rule him out of a bout with Usyk around the planned dates of February 18, February 25 or March 4.
However, he later said he would welcome the undisputed heavyweight world title showdown in late February or early March.
Fury first told ESPN in the ring after his win: “I’ve got some hand problems and I’ve got to maybe have some surgery on my elbow.
“After that, I’m ready for anybody…
“I sort of f***ed my hands up tonight on Derek’s big head.
“And I’ve got some elbow problems.
“I’ve got to maybe have surgery on my right elbow.
“I had the left one done back in October [2021] after the Wilder fight, so I’ve got to have it done.
“It will take about six to eight weeks to heal.
“We’ll see when we can be ready for this fight, we’ll see when it can be made.”
At the post-fight press conference though, Fury added: “Erm, we’ll see, we’ll see. I’m not a doctor. Where I am now, I feel great.
“I hope I don’t have anything to mess up anything. Looking forward to a massive 2023…
“Frank Warren and Bob Arum having been telling me it [the Usyk fight] might be end of February, early March.
“Let’s do it.”
