James Ward-Prowse is leading Southampton’s push for safety in the Premier League relegation battle.
Ward-Prowse is in superb scoring form as he takes on a more advanced role under new boss Nathan Jones.
The Saints skipper has scored five goals in his last six games with multiple coming from his signature free kicks as he closes in on David Beckham’s record.
This has meant he has been celebrating regularly in recent weeks and his golf swing has had plenty of practice…
What does James Ward-Prowse’s celebration mean?
Ward-Prowse is known to wheel away and perform a golf swing after finding the back of the net.
He has been doing the celebration for many years now and revealed to the Saints website why he started to do it.
Speaking in 2021, he said: “I always say to my little boy Oscar before I leave for a game ‘what should my celebration be?’.
“He loves golf and he plays it all the time so I said ‘I’ll do a golf swing’ so he showed me how to do it.”
He continued: “It was also because [Danny] Ings was going to play golf with me the following day after the Everton game when I first did it.
“Then he pied me and didn’t end up playing with me – so I’ll dedicate it to my son anyway!
“It’s just a nice little moment for him to see and hopefully to inspire him to become a Southampton player one day – and hopefully take free-kicks as well.”
If Ward-Prowse is to continue his form this season and help keep the Saints in the Premier League, we could be seeing the celebration a lot more.
And maybe his son will even follow in his footsteps on the south coast in the future…
