What will the defensive identity of the Boston Celtics look like next season?

After sending veteran point guard Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies in the deal that brought Washington Wizards big man Kristaps Porzingis, the Boston Celtics traded reserve forward Grant Williams as well. The moves change the team’s defensive identity.

Now, the team is heavily oriented toward the offensive end of the court, and few open roster spots remain for the club to flesh out the roster. Will Boston bring on some impact players with a focus on defense to help shore up what it lost in Williams and Smart, or might they go even harder in terms of developing an offense-first style of play?

The host of the CLNS Media “Winning Plays” podcast Brian Robb got together with MassLive’s Souichi Terada to talk it over on a recent episode.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what the dup had to say about the identity of the team for their looming 2023-24 campaign.
