From January 13, the new TV series, Break Point, based completely on the world of tennis, will start on Netflix. A documentary that aims, through the voices of its protagonists, to make known a world, that of this sport, whose different nuances and facets are not known by its fans.
Interviews, stories, anecdotes, insights from champions such as Matteo Berrettini, Nick Kyrgios, Stefanos Tsitstipas on their match preparation, training sessions, and much more, hope to bring tennis closer to fans and also to attract a new audience to the Game, as happened with Drive to Survive, the series that the US streaming company has made for Formula 1, and which has generated a great increase in expectations in the motor world.
This week we got to know the main topics that the first five chapters will cover, where the first part of the 2022 season will be shown, with Kyrgios and Kokkinakis protagonists at the Australian Open, Taylor Fritz’s big week in Indian Wells or the good work of Ons Jabeur in the Madrid Masters 1000.
Stefanos Tsitsipas: “You will see how difficult it is”
From Abu Dhabi, in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition tournament, several players who participate in this documentary wanted to give their opinion on the matter and tell a little about what we will be able to see from mid-January.
One of them is the Greek Tsitsipas, who gave some impressions about the imminent start of the series. He explained: “I feel lucky to be one of the subjects of something like this. I’m not sure how much it will show because I really don’t know, but it really puts the lives of us players are on fire.
I’m happy and I’m interested in seeing him because he’s going to show people how hard it is to be a tennis player, everything people see is glamor and success, but there’s so much more than what everyone sees.”
Another protagonist of the tennis courts and scenes is Casper Ruud, who gives a preview to his fans: “In my case, I was followed closely at the Roland Garros. Of course, I was there and I experienced it firsthand, but there may be some angles and sides of the shoot that I don’t know about, so I can’t wait to see it.
It has had a huge impact on Formula 1, on the popularity of this sport all over the world, so I hope it can give tennis a little boost too.” Ons Jabeur added: “It was really fantastic. I’m not used to having cameras on all the time, but the team was very professional, something we feel comfortable with.
I think it will be great to show how we are off the pitch which is very important. I know that many people are curious to know how we athletes behave outside of sport, whether they are footballers or tennis players or other athletes.”
