Guinness World Record for Martin Borgmeier

Martin Borgemeier is the reigning world champion of the Professional Long Drivers Association. He took the title at the end of last September in Nevada. But the German, who also holds the European title, is not one to sit idly by.

About a month ago, with the organizational collaboration of the DP World Tour, Borgmeier attempted to set a new record.

The site chosen by the European tour content team was the London Golf Club, a Kent club located about 200 miles southeast of London.

The length of the driving range of the English club exceeds 300 yards, a necessary requirement for Borgmeier’s attempt: to pull the greatest number of drives over 300 yards, precisely, in 60 minutes. On a cold and wet day (not ideal weather conditions), with the collaboration of a friend who teeed him off in rapid succession, the German unleashed his swing under the eyes of a patrol of Guinness World Records officials .

The attempt was unsuccessful. Borgemeier, exhausted, managed to hit “only” 401 valid drives, a figure very far from the current record of 459, established by the American Lynn Ray (also known as Capt’n’ Crush) in 2016 in San Diego.

Stephen Follett, chief executive of London Golf Club, said: “We were delighted to welcome World Long Drive Champion Martin Borgmeier, the DP World Tour content team and the Guinness World Records officials team to the London Golf Club for the new record setting attempt” “Hosting events like this is a great opportunity for us to showcase our golf offering and clubhouse facilities” “We want to thank the DP World Tour for the amazing footage they did”.

The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and maintained by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body for golf worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA, oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision has been in force since January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and manages the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
