British tennis player Jodie Burrage, 24, said not messaging Emma Raducanu for advice before her Centre Court debut was probably a mistake. On Wednesday, world No 108 Burrage got ousted in her Centre Court debut as 10th-ranked Kasatkina claimed a 6-0 6-2 win over the Briton in the second round.

Burrage, who was making her third Wimbledon main draw appearance, has a solid relationship with Raducanu and they message each other from time to time. But Burrage opted not to message Raducanu before one of the biggest matches of her career.

Raducanu made her Wimbledon Centre Court debut last year, when she beat Alison van Uytvanck in the first round.

Burrage: Probably should have messaged Raducanu

“I actually didn’t see her. I’ve spoken to her a bit in the last few months.

We don’t really talk about tennis, to be honest. We check in. We have a bit of fun with some other stuff. Yeah, I mean, I should have probably messaged her for advice,” Burrage said, via British newspaper i. On the morning of her match, Burrage stumbled upon Andy Murray at The All England Club.

In 2020, Burrage and Murray played mixed doubles together at The Battle of the Brits. Burrage jokingly revealed Murray probably didn’t recognize her at first but he did give her some advice. “When I asked him [for advice] this morning, he kind of looked at me.

I was like ‘you probably don’t remember, it was quite a long time ago. He said about looking around. He said about the Royal Box, getting comfortable with whoever’s up there. When you’re on the court, you do get glimpses of people.

It can sometimes put you off. He just said have a little look. Once you know who’s there, then you can get on with things. But just to go out and enjoy it, regardless of the score. That’s what I did today,” Burrage revealed.
