Could Boston’s depth at center keep Blake Griffin away?

During his maiden season with the Boston Celtics, Blake Griffin quickly endeared himself to the fan base. The veteran big man wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line when diving for loose balls or stepping up to take charges. However, following the expiration of his one-year contract, Griffin is once again an unrestricted free agent.

The Celtics currently have two open roster spots and would likely prefer to add some more veterans to their rotation ahead of next season. According to CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning and longtime NBA writer Marc Stein, the Celtics reportedly hold some interest in bringing Griffin back for a second season.

In the latest episode of the Green With Envy podcast, the hosts discuss whether it would make sense to add Griffin to an already stacked big-man rotation. Boston recently acquired Kristaps Porzingis, who will also consume a significant amount of minutes at the five and could push Griffin further down the depth chart.
