Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham is ‘increasingly uncertain’ and club may not activate contract extension as it would be ‘self-defeating’ for ‘all parties’

Antonio Conte’s position as Tottenham boss is ‘increasingly uncertain’ and the club may not activate a 12-month extension on his contract.

Spurs are experiencing a major slump in form, having won just three of their last nine Premier League matches – their latest outing saw them lose 2-0 at home to Arsenal, who outplayed them.

As things stand Conte will leave Spurs at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract

The Italian’s deal is due to expire in the summer but the club have the option of extending it by another year.

But the Daily Mail reports that Spurs’ worrying form could decide Conte’s long-term future.

The report adds there is an understanding that it would be ‘self-defeating’ for ‘all parties’ to activate the extensions amid suggestions Conte and the club’s visions are not aligned.

Conte was appointed as head coach in November 2021, guiding them to a fourth-placed finish last season.

Spurs are still in this season’s FA Cup and Champions League, however, their stuttering league form has seen them go five points off the top four.

Failure to beat Manchester City on Thursday night could see Spurs drift further away from the Champions League spots with fourth-placed Manchester United having a game in hand on them.

The uncertainty surrounding Conte’s future in north London has led to reports that chairman Daniel Levy could appoint his replacement in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino, who was in charge of Spurs for over five years, has been linked with a return.

The Mail’s report earmarks Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea, as a potential replacement.
