Alexander Zverev was eliminated from the ATP Finals in Turin due to the difference in sets won, which qualified Carlos Alcaraz. We will tell you this evening about the highly anticipated match between Carlitos and Novak Djokovic, but it should be underlined that Zverev has demonstrated that the 2022 injury is now just a bad memory.
Zverev won two of his three matches in the group, beating the world number 2 Spaniard and winning over Andrey Rublev, in a match between two already eliminated tennis players. He duly honored his performance by finishing with a double 6-4 and also leaving the tournament with excellent feelings.
The German spoke in the post-match press conference and analyzed the victory and, in general, the group played: “I have to look at this week only in a positive way. I beat Alcaraz first and now I won against Andrey Rublev.”
Zverev leavs Torino with great feelings
Zverev who had great percentages both on serve and on return, with an excellent 64%, perhaps highlighting one of the Russian’s weak points.
Sasha continued by recalling the injury: “After the injury I had, returning here among the best eight tennis players in the world gives me great hope. And I also won two matches. I am very motivated and I am especially thinking about next year.” Zverev ends the season here, a year which saw him start from the bottom but also saw him return to the Top-10, where also here in Turin he demonstrated that he fully deserves.
For him now it’s a well-deserved holiday and then he can move on to next season where he will try to earn points from Australia. Zverev ends the season in 7th place in the ATP ranking, more than 1000 points ahead of Casper Ruud’s 11th place in the rankings.
However, Andrey Rublev’s ATP Finals ended in the worst possible way, defeated in all three matches of the group and always quite badly. The Russian athlete nevertheless managed to close his season – overall positive – in 5th place in the ATP rankings.
