Alexander Zverev has got an important milestone, reaching 7th place in the Race to the ATP Finals, and coming closer to a very important goal, after the serious injury in 2022, rehabilitation and return this season. It will be a month and a half of great battle to gain access to the Nitto ATP Finals.
The season finale on the men’s circuit is ready to get underway in China, a place where no events have been held for three years due to the pandemic.
There are mainly 1500 points up for grabs from next week between the Beijing tournament and the Master 1000 in Shanghai, in addition to the ATP 250 in Zhuhai and Chengdu.
While Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Mededev have already obtained passes to the PalaAlpitour in Turin, the others will fight to secure their position and be present at the big event at the end of the year.
The first of the unqualified at the moment is Jannik Sinner, who will try to close the case and make his participation official during the Asian tour.
The South Tyrolean must demonstrate that he is one of the strongest on indoor hard court and reach the final stages to score a significant haul of points. Not a simple task but within reach, given that the Italian has rested several days after the effort of the US Open.
The only notable change this week is Alexander Zverev’s leap into the top 8, moving ahead of Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz. The German is chasing the title at the Changdu Open to put pressure on his other direct opponents. Zverev is certainly one of the most dangerous and fearsome players ahead of the season finale.
Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas remain fairly stable in fifth and sixth place, although they have to confirm their place in Turin. Currently no American would be a protagonist in Italy in November: both Fritz, Tiafoe and Paul are out and must try to catch up on their rivals.
There is certainly no shortage of opportunities to do so and the last 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy could prove decisive.
