Former British tennis player and current commentator Andrew Castle says “the jury is out” on whether Emma Raducanu can lift another Grand Slam title before retiring. In 2021 September, Raducanu did something that no player ever did before – she won a Grand Slam as a qualifier after beating Leylah Fernandez in the US Open title. But since then, 20-year-old Raducanu hasn’t won a title on any level.

After dealing with lots of adversity, challenges and criticism, Raducanu had surgeries on both wrists and her left ankle.Raducanu is currently recovering from multiple surgeries, with the date of her comeback still unclear.Castle hopes Raducanu is “enjoying some downtime” right now as he is also hoping the Briton will one day put herself to again be in a position to contend for a Grand Slam title.

Castle on Raducanu’s future Slam chances: The jury is out

“I hope she’s enjoying some downtime.

I hope she’s doing a bit of socializing as well as recovery, it’s a really weird inverted career path. You know, most people build, build, build again and then have a shot at Grand Slam. And in fact, they normally have several shots at them.

She goes in and wins one from qualifying. I mean it’s unheard of and nobody wanted to hear it at the time. Like, you know, be patient. It’s not always gonna be this way, but I’m afraid it’s kind of a really odd but fabulous start.

Now, she has to kind of restart, reset and go again and she’s an adult now. She has her own life, I hope she takes some control of that herself, I hope she makes some coaching decisions herself. Just go and play. Rediscover the joy.

I don’t expect her to win Wimbledon next year, no. I think that the jury is out on whether she’ll win another Grand Slam at all. Probably not, but she might put herself into position and then who knows? But, you know, and still until she starts playing like she wants to play then then she won’t win one.

I’m convinced about that. She’s a magnificent player and a great kid. And I hope she puts herself into position again. She’s got the talent,” Castle told Metro.
