Auburn University women’s tennis player and sophomore DJ Bennett was honored as the SEC Player of the Week for the 2024 season. Bennett earned the honor after an incredible weekend that featured two straight singles wins and one doubles win, during ITA’s Kickoff Weekend in Durham, North Carolina.
Bennett, the nation’s 34th-ranked singles player, earned the Tigers’ first win against Denver, 6-0, 6-2 over Caroline Driscoll on Friday

On Saturday, against No.
15 Duke, Bennett and Adeline Flach returned to winning ways after trailing 3-1 in doubles play against Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova. The 6-3 victory clinched the crucial doubles point for the Tigers. Following the doubles victory, the Auburn sophomore won her opening singles match to beat No.
74 Ellie Coleman 6-2. Bennett was going strong in the second set and built a lead over Coleman, but Coleman fought back to tie the set in the fifth. She pulled away in the final two games of the set, winning both to secure the team’s victory at Auburn and start the celebration with her teammates on court three.
In the dramatic second set, Bennett won eight of her ten service games, including four that reached a score of 40-40. The win marked Bennett’s team-best 12th singles victory of the 2023-24 season and gave Auburn its ticket to the ITA Indoor Team Championships for the third consecutive season.
Auburn qualified for the ITA National Championships
Auburn University women’s tennis team defeated Duke University, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Tigers qualyfied the 2024 ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the third consecutive year.
Auburn will play its home opener with a doubleheader with Texas Tech and South Alabama, before making the trip to the ITA Indoor Championships in Seattle.
