Carlos Alcaraz admits he would simply love to find his name along with Roger Federer’s in US Open history books. Alcaraz, 20, is aiming to become the first player since Federer in 2008 to win back-to-back US Open titles. So far, Alcaraz has been through to the round-of-16 and he is four wins away from emulating a Federer US Open feat. “Of course, I watch the draw and see the opponents I can play against.

Obviously, I am focused day by day. Obviously defending the title here is a goal for me, I’m looking for that. Obviously, I know that the only man, I think nobody else defended the title here since Roger Federer. So I would love to be part of the tournament history here with Roger to defend the title, as I said it’s my main goal and I’m looking for that,” Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz hopes to emulate Federer’s US Open feat

After clinching two straight-set wins in his opening two matches, Alcaraz needed four sets to beat Daniel Evans 6-2 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the US Open third round.

After the match, Alcaraz spoke highly of Evans’ game and admitted he was just happy that he was able to beat the “tricky” Briton. “He’s a tricky opponent. He always wants to go to the net. Great slices, good touch.

I think this is my game as well, so we played a pretty good match. I think the people loved that. We made great points, great shots, a lot of different situations probably than in other matches. I’m really happy to get through and play the fourth round again in the US Open,” Alcaraz said after beating Evans.

In his next US Open match, Alcaraz will be playing against rising Italian star Matteo Arnaldi. Going into the match, Alcaraz is the absolute favorite to beat world No 61 Arnaldi.
