Kate Abdo hilariously forgot what broadcaster she worked for at the San Siro, causing Jamie Carragher to joke: ‘We’re all going to get sacked!’
The CBS Sports host was present for Inter Milan’s 1-0 Champions League semi-final win over rivals AC Milan alongside Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.
And ahead of the match, Abdo’s slip-up caused much amusement among her colleagues.
Expressing his gratitude at being at the game, Manchester City cult hero Richards said: “Just look at this, we’re blessed to be here tonight, aren’t we?”
To which Abdo replied: “Amen we are blessed to be here, I agree. Speaking of that, there are some other people who aren’t so blessed to be here tonight.
“Your Fox Sports – not Fox Sports – we’re on CBS, I apologise.”
Upon realising her mistake, Richards and Carragher burst into laughter, while Henry turned around in shock as he began to walk off the set in disbelief.
Carragher then slumped to the floor in stitches, before popping over the table to quip: “We’re all going to get sacked! Is there any jobs going on Fox?”
Abdo, who had also joined Henry in walking away, tried to put the blame on the teleprompter.
She said: “I’m so sorry. The teleprompter had just kind of risen up a little bit.”
Not having it, Carragher then joked: “Have you been speaking to them privately about a contract or something?”
It led an embarrassed Abdo to say: “Oh man, I am about to get fired. I’m so sorry everybody.”
Getting one last comment in, Carragher simply said: “Can you get fired live on air?”
