Casper Ruud confirms where he plans to prepare for 2023 Wimbledon

Casper Ruud has signed up to play in Halle next year, according to Michal Samulski. Ruud, 23, will be making his debut on the grass courts of Halle next year. Ruud now joins a star-studded Halle lineup as in late September Samulski reported that Nick Kyrgios, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime all signed up to play in the German ATP 500 event.

This year, Ruud kicked off his grass season at the Queen’s Club, where he suffered a shock first round defeat to Ryan Peniston.

Ruud then played two matches at the Hurlingham exhibition as he lost to Zizou Bergs before beating Carlos Alcaraz in his following matches.

Ruud finally earned his first Wimbledon win in 2022

After picking up back-to-back first round defeats at Wimbledon in 2019 and 2021, Ruud defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (1) 7-6 (9) 6-2.

After winning a tight first set, Ruud twice failed to serve out for the second set as Ramos-Vinolas forced a tie-break. In the tie-break, Ruud found himself 6-2 down but managed to save five set points and steal the second set to take a two-set lead.

Then, Ruud broke Ramos-Vinolas twice in the third set to complete a three-set win. “I sort of should have won the second set before, because I was serving for it twice, and then got broken both times. It happens fast on grass.

Suddenly you’re down 0/30, and then a couple of points here and there, it can happen. Then everything turned in his favour, then again it turned back in my favour. Being down 6/2, coming back and winning 11/9, I think with some crazy rallies in there.

It’s obviously a game of small margins. In that tie-break they were on my side luckily, so I think that also helped me to win the match,” Ruud said after earning his first Wimbledon win. After beating Ramos-Vinolas for his first Wimbledon win, Ruud lost to Ugo Humbert in his next match.

For next year, Ruud plans to play Halle and Wimbledon. It remains to be seen if Ruud can make some notable grass results next year.
