Casper Ruud joins Roger Federer, wins Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

Casper Ruud has been announced as the winner of the 2022 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. For the first time since 2003, someone other than Roger Federer (13) or Rafael Nadal (5) has won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

Ruud, who made his first two Grand Slam finals this year, is known as a very fair player. Now, he is being recognized for his fair play and outstanding sportsmanship. “A big thanks to everyone who voted for me for this year’s ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

I feel very, very honoured and happy to win this prize this year. I will try to keep my mood in the right place for next year. Can’t wait to be back on court,” Ruud told the ATP website.

Ruud starts his 2023 season in Australia

Ruud, ranked at No 3 in the world, is set to represent Norway at the inaugural United Cup.

After the United Cup, Ruud will fly to New Zealand for the ASB Classic. In a recent interview, Auckland tournament director Nicolas Lamperin said the tournament and Ruud quickly agreed on a deal. “One of the easiest was Casper Ruud.

You would have thought it would have been more difficult because of his ranking, but he’s the kind of guy who likes to play a lot of ATP 250 tournaments and doesn’t mind playing the week before a grand slam. I guess it was more challenging with Emma Raducanu.

We wanted to wait to see what happened after the US Open. On both sides there was interest, she was also keen to hear about what was happening with the United Cup, so it took longer to agree. But in the end we were on the same page,” Lamperin told New Zealand media company Stuff. For Ruud, it will be very important to prepare well for the Australian Open.
