Chelsea Twitter admin pokes fun at Leeds after relegation from Premier League

Chelsea’s Twitter admin basked in seeing Leeds suffer relegation from the Premier League on Sunday.

The Whites went into the final day of the season needing a miracle to stay up with a win over Tottenham required and for Leicester and Everton to lose against West Ham and Bournemouth respectively.

Leicester and Everton won their respective matches, but from a Leeds perspective the results paled into insignificance as Sam Allardyce’s men suffered a 4-1 thumping at home.

The scenes at Elland Road were one of despondency as their relegation was confirmed, but about 200 miles south some were revelling in the result.

In August, Leeds swatted aside Chelsea with a surprise 3-0 win in Yorkshire, with their first two coming within five minutes of each other.

Reacting to the quickfire two goals, the Leeds Twitter account tweeted: “Life comes at you fast [sunglasses emoji].”

Later on Sunday evening, the Chelsea Twitter account replied to the original post, saying: “It certainly does.”

Leeds’ three-year stay in the top flight came to an end with Spurs thoroughly outplaying them.

Harry Kane put the visitors ahead inside the opening two minutes before Pedro Porro doubled the visitors’ advantage early in the second half.

Jack Harrison pulled one back on 67 minutes, but Kane added his second and Spurs’ third two minutes later, with Lucas Moura’s solo run and finish sealing the win.

After Leeds’ drop to the Championship was confirmed, both Allardyce and the club apologised to fans.

Allardyce said: “I can’t say I’ve enjoyed it. I’m glad I came back. I tried my best to get Leeds out of trouble, but I can’t enjoy anything when I don’t win.

“We didn’t leave a stone unturned and it’s really sad that Leeds is in this position and to the fans, I apologise that I didn’t do better and the players didn’t do better.”

A Leeds statement read: “We apologise to our fan base that the performances this season have not seen the club consolidate our status as we had all hoped.

“However, Leeds United remains in a strong position to build a team that can challenge for promotion from the Championship next season.

“We know things have not been good enough, we know we have to improve, but please be assured that behind the scenes we have worked hard to ensure that the past will not be repeated.

“Our focus is now on how we get straight back to the Premier League.”
