Daria Kasatkina jokingly asked the US Open crowd if they knew anything other than alcohol that could help her switch her mind off tennis for a little bit. On Thursday night, Kasatkina came back from a set down to beat USA’s Sofia Kenin 2-6 6-4 6-2 in the US Open second round. “Honestly, I used to have big expectations here.
But then I checked my record and I realized that maybe I should slow down. I wish I knew what to do to forget about tennis. Because it’s always just spinning around here in the head – it’s like… sometimes I’m getting sick from it.
Especially when you are in the Slam, when you are trying hard to just turn off your head and think about something else, it’s just everywhere in the city. You go for a walk, and everywhere is the US Open advertising. It’s impossible to forget.
Then you are coming back to your room, you turn on the TV and tennis there. Everyone is talking about it. If you’ll find out something on how to turn off your head without using alcohol for example, you tell me, okay?” Kasatkina joked.
Kasatkina two wins away from her best-ever US Open result
Kasatkina, 26, is making her ninth US Open appearance this year. In previous years, world No 14 Kasatkina didn’t really have much success at the US Open.
So far, Kasatkina’s best US Open result has been a round-of-16 showing in 2017. In this year’s US Open third round, Kasatkina is set to meet Greet Minnen. If Kasatkina beats Minnen, she will reach the second week at Flushing Meadows for the second time in her career and also put herself a win away from achieving her new best-ever US Open result. Going into the Minnen match, Kasatkina is the favorite to end on the winning side.
