Emma Raducanu reportedly suffered a setback in the wrist area about six weeks ago and is “highly doubtful” to compete at the MGM Macau Tennis Masters in early December. In May, Raducanu surgically addressed injuries on both wrists and her right ankle.

Raducanu hasn’t played since but she is signed up to compete at an exhibition event in China, which takes place between December 02-03. In Macau, Raducanu is scheduled to take on Belinda Bencic. However, according to a report from The Daily Mail, Raducanu has yet to start practicing with full intensity and her return to action likely won’t happen in early December.

“It is understood that plans for her comeback have fallen behind schedule following a setback in the wrist area about six weeks ago, and it is now highly doubtful that she will play in an exhibition event in Macau that was due to see her return on December 2,” Mike Dickson of The Daily Mail wrote.

Raducanu ‘highly doubtful’ for the Macau exhibition

In July, Raducanu was announced as a participant in the Macau exhibition. Raducanu, who has Chinese roots, also recently went to a trip to China. “There will be an even greater connection to the local community.

Emma’s [Raducanu] Chinese roots and her remarkable rise to stardom by winning the US Open have made her a global sensation, while Wu Yibing’s historic feat as the first Chinese national to win an ATP tournament has significantly elevated his standing in world tennis,” Luiz Carvalho, a senior vice-president at sports group IMG, told the South China Morning Post in July.

When Raducanu signed up for Macau, the hope was that she would be to return to action in early December and also be ready to come back to the WTA Tour at the start of the 2024 season. The Daily Mail report also said that Raducanu is being very cautious with her comeback plans and not rushing anything.
