On the occasion of the presentation of the Sky Sport Golf channel held in Milan, which from today switches on its broadcasts on channel 206 of the satellite broadcaster, the president of the Italian Golf Federation Franco Chimenti spoke exclusively with OA Sport about what 2023 will be like for the discipline.
Franco Chimentim statements
The central focus will be that of the Ryder Cup 2023, which will be held in Rome from 29 September to 1 October, at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, but not only, because there is an important movement behind Francesco Molinari and Guido Migliozzi which in 2022 achieved very significant results.
Here is the interview with Franco Chimenti. Hello President Chimenti, 2023 has begun: will it be the year of consecration for golf in Italy?
“The Ryder Cup will be a sensational event, also because it will only take place for the third time in history in what is Continental Europe and it is not certain that there will be other occasions of this type in the future.
This, I am sure, will be a reason for a great return not only for our golf but also for the whole country of Italy”. Francesco Molinari is certainly our most important standard bearer, but the Italian golf movement does not stop at him alone…
“It’s true, we have collected several successes: from that of Filippo Celli in the European Amateur Championship, to that of Marco Florioli, Pietro Bovari, and Celli again, in the World Amateur Team Championships.
Fantastic results”. We talked about the Ryder Cup at the beginning of the interview: would you feel like expressing a wish for this Roman edition of the event?
“What I would like is that the 2018 edition of the Ryder Cup, held in Paris, could be repeated.
Molinari was amazing and I hope it can be repeated at home, once again becoming decisive for the victory of Team Europe, perhaps, why not, having Guido Migliozzi by his side too”, Franco Chimenti, said to Oasport.
