Gabriel Agbonlahor pokes fun at Danny Mills after Aston Villa beat Leeds to move to three points off European spots

Gabby Agbonlahor could not resist a cheeky dig at Danny Mills after Aston Villa’s victory over Leeds.

Villa won 2-1 on Friday night against the Yorkshire outfit in what was a frantic clash full of energy at Villa Park.

Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia gave the home side a two-goal lead before a late strike from Patrick Bamford made it a nervy ending for Villa.

But they hung on for the vital victory, with Unai Emery’s men now three points off the European spots in 11th place and level with Chelsea.

As for Leeds, they sit in 14th having won just four out of their 18 games to leave them just two points above the relegation zone.

And talkSPORT’s Agbonlahor could not help but immediately take to Instagram to poke fun at pal Mills, where he posted two pictures of the ex-Leeds defender.

Captioning the upload, he quipped: “Hey Danny we need to know how a Villa team in first gear won tonight??

“Three points off European places let’s go!! UTV. Leeds another relegation battle.”

It is just the latest chapter in a brewing rivalry between the two sides, where the fans and players alike put on a raucous show at Villa Park full of big challenges and spiky flashpoints.

Before the match, Agbonlahor posted a picture of the clubs tussling in a previous clash that included Jack Grealish, which the Manchester City star even liked.

It followed one of the more controversial moments in recent football history when both sides were vying for promotion to the Premier League back in 2019.

Mateusz Klich scored when Villa thought the ball was about to be kicked out of play after Jonathan Kodjia had gone down injured, sparking a melee – resulting in two yellow cards and a red card.

Marcelo Bielsa ordered his side to stand down and allow Villa to equalise, though Pontus Jansson was not happy about that and attempted to put a challenge in – leading to more frenzy.

But it was Villa who triumphed on Friday night, taking them within three points of seventh-placed Liverpool.

Goalscorer Bailey told Sky Sports: “For us tonight was really important. We enjoyed the game and showed a really good team spirit.

“It was great to have the fans on their feet again. It is nice to get a win again at Villa Park.

“It was definitely the perfect start, we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“It was brilliant from the first moment and it was great to see the team there for each other from the first moment to the last.”
