‘Gabriel always has a mistake in him’

Gabby Agbonlahor was left baffled by the number of Arsenal defensive mistakes in their defeat against Manchester City.

City moved above Mikel Arteta’s men at the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland sealed the victory late on for the Citizens as they claimed a crucial three points.

Despite Man City’s triumph, talkSPORT host Agbonlahor was left unimpressed by Arsenal’s defending throughout the contest.

“A lot of mistakes from Arsenal,” he told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“The first one [Takehiro] Tomiyasu it happened, [Jack] Grealish is pressing him, and he does not see Kevin De Bruyne running through.

“It is Gabriel for me, though, everytime you watch him, he is the one you always think has a mistake in him.

“Yesterday, the penalty that was not given because [Erling] Haaland was offside, he got away with one there.

“He wanted to fight and battle with Haaland and then gives away a penalty.

“Then the goal that Haaland scores, it is just poor defending all round, giving the ball away at times where you shouldn’t be.

“I am all for playing out from the back, Manchester City did it yesterday, but if it is not on, hit the big man up front and then play off him.”

The result means Pep Guardiola’s troops leapfrog their title rivals to take top spot for the first time since November 5.

Arsenal do have a game in hand, however, but it will still feel like a bitter blow for Mikel Arteta’s men.
