From February, in the 2023 season, Garbine Muguruza decided to take a temporary break from the WTA circuit due to the less than exciting results achieved in the previous year.

However, the Spanish player does not seem willing to return to playing official tournaments in a short time, perhaps at the beginning of 2024.

The 30-year-old tennis player recounted how she has lived these last few months without the court, in an interview with Women’s Health: “Today I don’t feel like I want to return to competitions. I want to rest, be with my family and make up for lost time. I go beyond what I’m doing today, in the present, and I don’t look beyond. My body and my mind needed this.”

Muguruza also revealed what her current physical form is: “By not competing I still keep fit, without always having to push myself to the limit. I go to the gym regularly, I love weight training, I do zumba, pilates, yoga, boxing. I take this opportunity to give a chance to those things that I couldn’t give a chance to when I was on the circuit.”

Garbine made history and brought Spain to the top. In 2017 the Spaniard also took the top spot in the WTA world rankings, after winning two Grand Slam titles in two years, the Roland Garros 2016 and Wimbledon 2017. The player also boasts the victory of the WTA Finals in 2021.

“Tennis has no place in my routine. I am aware of my teammates, maybe I can play sometimes but for pure fun, without intensity. It doesn’t occupy my mind, my routine or my day, I’m taking a real break and keeping myself completely off the court,” she said.

Garbine has postponed the comeback for now to savor glimpses of life that she probably missed, as every professional athlete misses, and make up for lost time. The question all her fans are asking is: will she return to the court or will she retire from tennis?

At the moment, therefore, there are no conditions to see Garbine Muguruza playing against the best tennis players in the world soon. The Spanish fans are waiting and hoping to see Paula Badosa back at the top, one of the tennis players who has occupied the top 3 in recent months.
