Iga Swiatek says she feels much more relaxed at this year’s Wimbledon as the Pole highlighted it’s a completely different situation for her at The Championships this year. Last Wimbledon, Swiatek arrived on a 35-match winning streak and Wimbledon was her first tournament since winning the French Open.
At the time, there was lots of attention on Swiatek’s winning streak and that put immense pressure on the Pole. After suffering a shock Wimbledon third-round loss to Alize Cornet last year, Swiatek is doing much better this year as she reached the round-of-16 at The Championships without a dropped set.
Swiatek: This time it is different at Wimbledon
“I do feel more relaxed.
I think also because I won Roland Garros and I feel like after that the pressure is a little bit off because I reached my goal kind of for the season. I don’t have to think about anything else other than playing. But this time is a little bit different because I feel like I have more kind of, I don’t know, free space in my head to develop my game and to work on my skills on grass.
Overall, yeah, I feel more relaxed,” Swiatek said. Now, Swiatek is solely focused on playing tennis, not on some other stuff like a major winning streak. “Honestly I’m not coming back to last year, especially with the fact that we don’t have to, like, defend points.
I feel like last year was, I don’t know, a little bit different, especially coming back after winning Roland Garros. It wasn’t, like, the easiest moment for me. I try really not to come back to that. I’m just taking experience from just this period of time of playing on grass, and that’s all.
It’s just a totally different chapter, so yeah,” Swiatek said.In the Wimbledon round-of-16, Swiatek is set to play against Belinda Bencic.
