Jannik Sinner shows respect for ‘intelligent’ Grigor Dimitrov after Miami match

Jannik Sinner called Grigor Dimitrov “a talented and intelligent player” following their Miami Masters match. In the Miami third round, Sinner saw off Dimitrov 6-3 6-4. “It’s the first time I have played in the evening. I can be very happy with my returning game, especially on second serves, when I tried to be very aggressive.

He’s such a talented and intelligent player, so I am very happy about how I played today,”

Sinner said after beating Dimitrov, per the ATP website.

How Sinner defeated Dimitrov?

After four games without any break points, Sinner earned the first break of the match in the fifth game.

In the ninth game – when Dimitrov was serving to stay in the first set – Sinner collected his second break to seal the opener. After losing the first set, Dimitrov started the second set by breaking Sinner in the first game.

Down by a break, Sinner had three break points in the second game but didn’t convert as Dimitrov opened a 2-0 lead. Sinner managed to get the break back in the fourth game but got broken again in the fifth game. Down by a break again, Sinner broke back Dimitrov in the sixth game to tie the set to three games apiece.

In the 10th game – when Dimitrov was serving to stay in the match – Sinenr broke the Bulgarian to complete a two-set win. For Sinner, it was his second straight-set win at this year’s Miami Open. Prior to coming to Miami, Sinner revealed his priority was improving his mental game.

“We’ve put a lot of work in, much more physically than tennis-wise, so many hours in the gym and I’ve also worked on the mentality as well, trying not to have so many problems in my head, so this is a lot of work to do, especially in the next couple of years, this is going to be very important for my future,” Sinner recently said.
