Juan Martin del Potro has hired fitness coach Duglas Cordero as the Argentine is serious about his intention to compete at this year’s US Open. Del Potro, 34, was out for three-and-a-half years due to a knee injury before appearing in just one match and retiring in Buenos Aires last year.
But recently, 2009 US Open champion del Potro revealed he would attempt to make a comeback at Flushing Meadows this year. Now, del Potro has started working with a well-known fitness coach.

Del Potro hopes to make at least one final US Open appearance
In February 2022, del Potro’s career came to an end following a straight-set defeat to Federico Delbonis in the Buenos Aires first round.
The US Open has always been a special tournament for del Potro and that’s why he would like to make at least one final appearance at Flushing Meadows. Del Potro is a two-time Grand Slam finalist – both of his Major finals came a tthe US Open.
“My goal is to be ready to play an official match in the tournament. I don’t know if I will be 100% or not but, at least, if my last tennis match ever has to be this year, I want (it to be) at the US Open. I will work hard for the last time, maybe, in my career, and then you never know.
God will decide if I’m ready or not,” del Potro told The Associated Press. If del Potro decides to really play at the US Open this year, the tournament would welcome him with open arms. “Juan Martín is a true favorite of US Open fans.
He is a tremendous, yet gracious, competitor and we would be thrilled for this former US Open champion to join us at this year’s tournament,” US Open tournament director Stacey Allastar said.
