LIV targeted the former number 1 Jason Day

The Arab Super League of golf continues to expand in the United States, where the PGA Tour has been thriving for decades. LIV Golf has announced three competitions in the United States to be held respectively in Arizona (in March), Oklahoma (May) and West Virginia ( August).

Liv, future

“LIV’s expansion into new U.S. markets adds to the growing excitement that has been generated with the announcement of the 2023 calendar that will represent a transformational season for the Superleague,” said Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf.

In the meantime, he continues his signing campaign and this time he seems to have targeted Australian Jason Day, former number 1 in the world (in 2016), Major champion, who hasn’t won an event on the PGA Tour since May 2018.

He entered the world top ten for the first time in June 2011, finishing ninth after a second-place finish at the US Open. In February 2014, he captured his first WGC title, the match play world championship. In August 2015, he won the 97th US PGA Championship, also setting a record with the lowest score ever across all four majors, 20 under par.

The previous record belonged to Tiger Woods, set in 2000 with 19 hits. In March 2016 he won the match play world championship again by defeating the South African Louis Oosthuizen in the final, becoming number one in the world rankings for the first time in his career, at the age of 29.

He will remain at the top of the standings for almost a year, when he will be overtaken by the American Dustin Johnson. LIV Golf, also known as Super Golf League, is a professional golf circuit. It was funded in 2022, with the patronage of the Public Investment Fund (es el fund riches sovereign of Saudi Arabia) 1.

The circuit rivals the PGA Tour (United States) and the DP World Tour (Europe), offering substantially higher prize money. The LIV name refers to the total number of horses competing in each event (54 in Roman numbers, corresponding to 3 rounds of 18 horses), as opposed to the usual 72 horses (4 rounds of 18 horses) in other tours. Alternatively, 54 is the score obtained by noting a birdie in each hoyo in a match of 72.
