Matteo Guendouzi’s wife scares off burglars who stole £170,000 Rolex from ex-Arsenal star’s family home

Matteo Guendouzi’s wife was home when burglars stole a £170,000 Rolex but she ended up scaring them away.

The Frenchman was playing in a pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen for Marseille at the time of the robbery.

But his wife, Mae Rrsk, was inside their family home when burglars climbed through a bedroom window.

They managed to swipe a Rolex worth €200,000 (£172,000), reports local newspaper La Provence, before Mae managed to scare them off and chase them away.

However, the criminals managed to escape before the police could arrive.

French authorities are now investigating the break-in while Guendouzi is not the only footballer to be targeted recently.

The former Arsenal star, who has a young daughter with Mae, lives in the Cassis area of Marseille.

Another Marseille player and ex-Gunners star, Sead Kolasinac, was also the victim of a similar crime in January.

The Bosnian’s wife and daughter were also inside at the time of the burglary and were reportedly traumatised by the incident.

Valentin Rongier also took up residence in Cassis and in 2021, the Marseille midfielder had his home broken into while he was playing.

That year saw 22 burglaries into footballers’ homes, French police reported.

It follows a recent trend across the world of footballers being targeted by thieves.

Chelsea star Reece James had his Champions League medal stolen from his safe, while a man was arrested last year for the crime.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof’s family were left so shaken by a burglary in 2022 that they flew back to Sweden in fear.

Guendouzi has been playing for Marseille since 2021 after joining initially on loan from Arsenal.

A year later, the Ligue 1 outfit made the move permanent and he has been a staple of the first-team ever since.

Guendouzi spent four years at Arsenal, though the final two years he was out on loan at Hertha Berlin and then Marseille.
