Nick Kyrgios is one of the great absentees of the 2023 Wimbledon edition. Outgoing finalist, the Australian player was conditioned by injuries in 2023, which did not allow him to express himself at his level. The wrist tear discovered a few hours before the start of the tournament prevented the tennis player from Canberra from taking part in the Championships and defending the points he earned last year.
His black period therefore continues: Kyrgios has in fact taken part in only one tournament in the current year, a few weeks ago in Stuttgart. The Australian, in the first round of the British Slam, should have made his debut against David Goffin. In recent days, the former number 13 in the world had made some statements about his bromance partner Novak Djokovic, the main candidate for success at Wimbledon.Just last year the Serbian champion had interrupted Kyrgios’ dream of winning a Slam, imposing himself in four sets on the grass of the Central Court.
From that moment a relationship of mutual esteem was born between the two tennis players, confirmed by some exchanges of ironic and heartfelt messages on social networks.
Nick Kyrgios on Djokovic: “He is a true legend”
The Australian tennis player praised the winning mentality of 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in an interview with Menshealth. He explained: “I’d say the word has changed maybe six times in the time I’ve known him.
But right now the word is legend. He’s a true legend of the game. What I like about Novak is that he takes on a lot of problems, but keep going. He has a fan base where a lot of people love him and a lot of people don’t. He sometimes he doesn’t know where he can play, in which tournament, he has to deal with a lot of other people’s opinions that come at him, but he just does it.”The 28-year-old then commented on the Serbian champion’s nice offer to become his coach: “I think most coaches wouldn’t mind hiring me because it would be a rollercoaster and there would be a lot of fun. But I’m not sure Novak would take it too seriously.”
