Novak Djokovic ripped British fans’ actions as “disrespect” but acknowledged that he wasn’t surprised to see something like that happen. On Thursday, Djokovic beat Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-4 to seal Serbia’s win over Great Britain in the Davis Cup Final 8 quarterfinal in Malaga.
As Djokovic was conducting his post-match interview on the court, a group of British fans continued to make noises and go at the Serb. “Learn how to respect players, how to behave yourselves, learn how to respect people, you shut up, you be quiet,” Djokovic was caught telling a group of people.

After going at Djokovic and trying to annoy him throughout the match, British fans had something more for the Serb even after the match was finished. “That’s disrespect but that’s something you have to be prepared for in a Davis Cup.
It’s normal that sometimes fans step over the line. In the heat of the moment sometimes you react too and you … show that you don’t allow this kind of behaviour. I mean, they can do whatever they want but I’m going to respond to that.
They were trying to annoy me the entire match, so yeah, we had a little bit of a chat in the end,” Djokovic said after the match, via Reuters. Djokovic maybe wasn’t happy with how a certain number of crowd treated him during the match but he was extremely happy with clinching a big win for his nation.
Afterward, Djokovic underlined that representing his country always brings extra motivation. “Being there on the court for my country is always extra push, extra motivation. Part of me looks forward to rest and recalibration and leave the racket on the side but right now I cannot allow myself to enjoy those thoughts about holidays,” Djokovic said.
