Patrick McEnroe says Carlos Alcaraz is now the No 1 French Open title favorite ahead of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz is off to an outstanding start to the clay season, winning back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid.
On the other side, Nadal has yet to start his clay season while Djokovic lost early in both of his two clay tournaments played so far. “[Carlos] Alcaraz wins it again (Madrid Masters), defends his title. He didn’t even look like he was at his absolute best in the final.
So Alcaraz, you know someone asked me the other day, French starts right now, I mean, I have to put him as the favorite. I know, we all know if Rafa can somehow get there and get through a few rounds and Novak. I guess we have to wait and see cuz Novak and Rafa are out of form,” McEnroe said on the Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe podcast, per Sportskeeda.
McEnroe labels Alcaraz as the No 1 French Open title favorite
Djokovic will surely play at the French Open, while Nadal’s participation has yet to be officially confirmed. In Madrid, Alcaraz said it was “a shame” that Nadal was missing tournaments due to an injury.
Also, Alcaraz underlined to the media that he wants Nadal to be able to compete at the French Open. “I have always said that I like to play against the best and Nadal is one of the best in history, there is no doubt about it.
His tournament is Roland Garros, he has more titles, but this is the most symbolic for him. I would love to play him at Roland Garros, measure myself against him, and see what happens. I think I could beat him, but Rafa has a thousand lives there,” Alcaraz said.
Recently, Alcaraz said he feels ready to win a second Grand Slam title. It remains to be seen if Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam title will come at Roland Garros in a month.
