Port Orchard Football Club’s first official game turned out to be one heck of performance by the first-year men’s soccer club.
Former Klahowya Secondary School standout Michael Divano’s hat trick stood out as the top highlight for Port Orchard FC in its 8-0 victory over Steel United at Kitsap Bank Stadium on Sunday. It was the Cascadia Premier League season-opener for Port Orchard, which dropped a 1-0 preseason friendly to Nido Aguila Seattle 2 on April 30.
“Hopefully it’s the start of a very fun summer,” Port Orchard FC head coach Patrick Leonard said.
Former Bremerton High School player Nick Riders opened the scoring in the fifth minute, sparking an eruption of six first-half goals for the home side. Divano, who has spent the past two years training with professional clubs overseas, notched a pair of goals in the first 45 minutes, including a gorgeous left-footed volley from 18 yards.
Divano completed his hat trick early in the second half. Former Central Kitsap High School player Hunter Milbrot added a pair of goals for Port Orchard, which is back in action at home May 21 at 3 p.m. against Thurston County.
