Ricky Hatton tells Derek Chisora to retire after Tyson Fury trilogy fight and criticises pay-per-view price

Ricky Hatton believes Derek Chisora should bow out of boxing after taking on Tyson Fury for the WBC world title.

On Saturday night, Chisora will fight Fury for the third time in his career, having come up short in his first two attempts, losing by unanimous decision in 2011 and getting stopped in the rematch in 2014.

Chisora is in the twilight of his career, but at the same time he continues to endure and bounce back when everyone thinks he’s out.

Back in 2016, Chisora lost to Dillian Whyte in a brutal contest and then shortly after suffered an upset defeat agains Agit Kabayel and at that time there would have been those advising him to retire.

Chisora bounced back, however, with a stunning knockout victory over Carlos Takam, which earned him a rematch against Whyte in 2018.

The heavyweight veteran subsequently lost that fight and between 2020-2021 he fell to three straight defeats, which seemed to finally mark the end of his career, but it was not to be.

Now the 38-year-old Chisora is once again in with a world title shot against Fury, although on this occasion, Hatton believes it actually should be his last dance.

“I love Derek Chisora to bits,” Hatton told FairBettingSites, “he’s absolutely first class but I think there are a fair few miles on Derek’s clock now.

“Most definitely after this fight I would like to see Derek hang them up.”

The fight will be broadcast on BT Sport Box Office at the price of £26.95, which is as much as the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch cost and it is more than Fury’s fight against Whyte from back in April and any other of his fights in the past

“You pay your BT or your Sky subscription fee and then they charge you to watch these fights on Box Office as well. I mean, £30? It is incredible.

“When you think about the cost of living now for everybody and to keep banging the prices up at the box office, I guess it is what it is.”

Hatton went on to say, “It seems to be going up and going up and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.

“The promoters and TV companies aren’t daft. If they keep putting it up and the viewing figures are bad, then they’ll be going ‘hang on a minute’ and then they’ve got to look at it as a TV company.

“All it boils down to is numbers. If they keep putting the price up then the figures must be good. If they keep putting the price up and then all of a sudden they’re not hitting their desired amount of views, then they might have to do a double shuffle and start knocking it down.”
