Steven Gerrard has reassured Liverpool fans that he has no plans to lure Mohamed Salah to Al Ettifaq.
Gerrard took over as boss of the Saudi Pro League club last month – his first management role since being sacked by Aston Villa last October.
Keen to bolster his new squad ahead of the new season, Gerrard has already raided his former club for captain Jordan Henderson but the former Reds hero has told fans that he will not move for talismanic star Salah.
The Egyptian has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but quickly made his intentions clear that he wants to continue in the Premier League next term.
When asked if he would like to sign Salah, Gerrard said: “No! The answer is no because Salah is my favourite player, I love Liverpool football club, so Mohamed can stay where he is.
“When he wins more leagues and Champions Leagues with Liverpool, we’ll maybe consider it.”
Salah has two years to run on his existing deal and is keen to help the Reds mount a title challenge following the club’s underwhelming 2022/23 campaign.
Liverpool finished last season in fifth place, missing out on Champions League football in the process.
Following their failure to qualify for Europe’s Premier club competition, Salah expressed his frustration in a social media post.
He wrote: “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this.
“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.
“I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
Liverpool kick-off their Premier League campaign with a mouth-watering trip to Chelsea on Sunday.
