Tim Henman provides fitness update on Emma Raducanu

Former British No 1 Tim Henman says Emma Raducanu is definitely putting in the hard work this offseason as he expects the 20-year-old to be “fitter and stronger” next year. Raducanu, who turned 20 in November, was dealing with injuries and physical setbacks throughout the entire 2022 season.

After concluding her 2022 season, Raducanu hired Andy Murray’s ex-strength and conditioning coach Jez Green. “For Emma, working with Jez Green, doing the track work, the gym work, using his experience and knowledge allied with her work ethic, she’ll definitely be fitter, stronger, faster.

Having seen her train over the last four to six weeks, she’s really putting in those hard yards to build that resilience,” Henman told The Times.

Raducanu is ‘already looking fitter and stronger’

In early October, Raducanu sustained a wrist injury but the injury didn’t prevent her from doing hard work in the gym.

Anne Keothavong, the British Billie Jean King Cup captain, also provided a very positive fitness update on Raducanu. “She’s looking pretty fit and strong and I think the work she’s put in over the last few weeks, you can see it.

It’s good that she’s investing the time into it. I think she recognises it’s an area she needed to work on and improve and she’s doing it. Wrist injuries are never easy, but I think this one is under control.

She’s got good people around her. I think she will be a stronger player come next year,” Keothavong said of Raducanu. Meanwhile, Raducanu has confirmed that she plans to start her 2023 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

In New Zealand, Raducanu will be making her first appearance. But before heading to New Zealand, Raducanu will be competing at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi this December. It remains to be seen if Raducanu will manage to stay more injury-free in 2023.
