Pontefract tips

3.15: Twilight Romance 11/8 (NAP)

Was the NAP two weeks ago and stormed home to win impressively ahead of We Never Stop by two and three quarter lengths.

Placed third on debut behind The Camden Colt and Thunder Blue in May, the former was a 9/2 shot in a Class 2 £39,000 contest next time out and then an 80/1 shot in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Thunder Blue went on to win by a comfortable distance next time out at Goodwood and then recorded a solid fifth place behind Valiant Force in the Norfolk Stakes, also at Royal Ascot.

There’s clearly more promise for this horse too having been entered into a Class 2 at York, with £147,540 up for grabs and given the timings of his win on just his second run, further progression is likely.

The Camden Colt and We Never Stop face the tip again and the form suggests he should go clear.

Southwell tips

2.25: Shetland Bus 11/2

Tango Boy is the outsider of the four runners but at 11/2 doesn’t offer much value based on his inconsistency.

However, on best form could make all the running – won a Class 3 in February by seven lengths in a match, but poor either side of that coming last of three and last of seven respectively.

Most read in Horse Racing

Shetland Bus wont twice in October off this mark but on reappearance in 2023 hasn’t been seen to the same standard.

Wick Green has gone well three times already this year and improved even further to win by ten lengths at Worcester but will have an 8lb rise to contend with.

Whereas Fairlawn Flyer doesn’t have a great record on good ground and could be discounted on going alone.

So it should come down to an in-play bet on Tango Boy if he’s running well but Shetland Bus gets the nod ahead with a return to form last time out and clearly the better value play.

Windsor tips

6.45: Aphelios 15/2 & Dora Penny 20/1 each-way

Dora Penny is the outsider in the market but has a few encouraging attributes that make her seem overpriced.

Went well enough last time out in a Class 2 fillies’ contest where she was carrying far more than most in the weights to some promising youngsters and should find this better on a course she’s won at before.

But it’s Aphelios who will take the main backing in this race after potentially needing the run last time out either that or not appreciating the slight cut in the ground on good to soft.

He’s up to an 89 rating these days but wasn’t far off at Ascot against Lethal Nymph and should go better now on his second run this season.
