Tuesday horse betting: Picks for Brighton, Newton, and Newbury

Renowned Journalist and Broadcaster Ed Quigley aka ‘Longshot Ted’ had a stunning Royal Ascot, including a 33/1 winner. He’s back for more, as he seeks out the value for Tuesday’s action.

Ted’s bets for Tuesday:

  • Brighton 4.00 – Ideal Guest – bet with Tote
  • Brighton 5.00 – Red Alert – bet with William Hill
  • Newton Abbot 6.20 – Stormin Crossgales – bet with BetVictor
  • Newbury 6.40 – Pink Satin – bet with bet365

Brighton 4.00 – Ideal Guest e/w

I am looking for the each-way value here, and it could pay to side with the George Margarson trained IDEAL GUEST. The 4-year-old hasn’t been firing on all cylinders lately, but is of major interest returning to the Sussex venue. I am willing to park some below par recent efforts to one side, as the gelding boasts an unblemished record of two wins from two starts over this course and distance.

Brighton is a track that has its idiosyncrasies, so proven winning course form at the track is worth a few extra pounds. Ground conditions will be spot on for him, but eased to a mark of 66, he is now 4lb lower than when last successful. David Probert takes the ride, and it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if Ideal Guest were to get involved at the business end of proceedings.

Brighton 5.00 – Red Alert

RED ALERT has been in scintillating form lately, and arrives here on a hat-trick. His last two starts have been both over this course and distance, boosting his CV to a very impressive four wins from seven starts over the course and distance.

A key factor would be the 9-year-old’s versatility – he has wins on soft, and also on rattling quick ground so whatever underfoot conditions are encountered, it shouldn’t pose a problem. Arriving under a 4lb penalty for his recent victory, William Carson is on board the gelding who will take some stopping in trying to make it three wins on the spin.

Newton Abbot 6.20 – Stormin Crossgales

We have Handicap Chase action over 2m5f, and I would be interested in the Tom George trained STORMIN CROSSGALES. The 6-year-old was a winner on Chase debut at Wincanton last year, but hasn’t kicked on since. However, this is his second start after a wind operation, and he showed plenty of zest when only beaten a couple of lengths at Stratford earlier this month.

Taking this big step up in trip to 2m5f looks as though it will really suit him, and it wouldn’t be a shock if he has more to offer now presented with a greater test of stamina. He has been eased to a mark of 123, and underfoot conditions should be spot on for him. The booking of top jockey Harry Cobden only heightens confidence, and the combination look like the value play here.

Newbury 6.40 – Pink Satin

Paul & Oliver Cole look to have a cracking chance of a winner here with PINK SATIN in this Fillies’ Novice Stakes over 7f. The trip looks the salient point, as this daughter of Churchill made a winning start at Windsor two weeks ago, but was off the bridle three furlongs out, and only hit top gear inside the closing stages, and by the time she hit the line she was in top gear.

That came over the 6f, and with plenty of stamina in her family, stepping up to 7f should bring about further improvement, and help her travel better. The further she goes the better she will be, and I think she has the tools to defy a 6lb penalty. William Buick is in the saddle for the yard which have been amongst the winners as of late.
