Valero Texas Open, first round delayed by fog

In the United States the first round of the Valero Texas Open was delayed by fog which caused a delay of nearly four hours. The opening round of the Pga Tour tournament was then suspended due to the arrival of darkness and the standings are therefore provisional.

In San Antonio, leads the leaderboard with a score of “-5” after 9 holes played (an eagle and three birdies the roster), the American Justin Lower. Behind him, all 2/i with a total of 68 (-4), are compatriot Matt Kuchar (runner up in 2022), Irishman Padraig Harrington, Mexican Roberto Diaz and South African Matthys J.

Daffue. On the “-4”, but after 13, here is also the American Patrick Rodgers. In the Top 10, 7/o with 69 (-3), there is also the Englishman Matt Wallace who is fresh from his success in the Corales Puntacana Championship.

Valero Texas Open, results

At the TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course, par 72) a complicated start for Francesco Molinari.

The Turinese, the only blue in the race, is 78/o with 73 (+1). For him a birdie and two bogeys. John Michael Spaun, defending champion, is instead 49/o (he is in perfect par after 11). Good start for Luke Donald. The captain of team Europe at the Ryder Cup in Rome is 15/o with “-2” after 11.

The Valero Texas Open, which is giving away 8,900,000 dollars (with the first coin of 1,602,000), precedes The Masters, the first men’s Major of 2023 scheduled from 6 to 9 April in Augusta, Georgia (USA). San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populous city in the United States and the second most populous city in Texas and the Southern United States.

Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first established civilian settlement in Texas in 1731, making it the oldest municipality in the state.[1][2] The city’s deep history contrasts with its rapid growth: it was the fastest growing among the top ten largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and second fastest from 1990 to 2000.[3][4] Straddling the regional divide between central and south Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion known colloquially as the “Texas Triangle.” San Antonio is the county seat of Bexar County; recent annexations have extended the city limits into Medina County and, for a small area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County.[5][6] Since San Antonio was founded during the Spanish colonial era, it has a church (the cathedral of San Fernando) in its center, on the main civic plaza facing it, a feature of many founded cities, towns and villages in Spain and Latin America .

As in many other western urban centers, areas outside the city limits are sparsely populated. San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area. Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of 2,558,143, based on the 2020 United States Census estimate, making it the 24th largest metropolitan area in the United States and the third largest in Texas.

Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west, and east makes it likely that the metro area will continue to expand.
