Venus Williams reveals Serena Williams’ simple words always gave her the strength and motivation to compete when on the court. Through the EleVen By Venus Instagram account – the clothing brand of Venus – the seven-time Grand Slam champion answered some fan questions.
“What is the wisest thing anyone ever told you?” one question that Venus received read. Venus then provided a recorded answer to the fan. “’If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.’ That was my mom. ‘You have to show up, so why not compete?’ That was Serena.

Venus Williams not done yet with pro tennis
After appearing in just four tournaments last year, Venus Williams kicked off her 2023 season in Auckland.
Williams won her first-round match before suffering a hamstring injury during a round-of-16 loss to Zhu Lin. In February, Williams revealed that she knew “it was going to be a bad injury” the moment she felt something in her hamstring.
But she didn’t have the strength to retire the match. After the match was over, Williams was down and she knew there was no way she would be able to compete at the Australian Open. Then, Williams decided to return the Australian Open wildcard that she was previously awarded by Tennis Australia.
