Viktor Hovland: “Future, nothing is excluded”

Viktor Hovland is one of the rising stars of world golf. At 25 he already has 5 victories on the Tours (3 on the PGA Tour and 2 on the DP World Tour) under his belt. As well as two back-to-back claims in the Hero World Challenge.

Like all top players (he currently occupies 11th position in the World Ranking), Hovland had been approached by Greg Norman with the aim of taking him to LIV Golf. But the Norwegian declined the offer. He also attended the meeting convened by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy at the BMW Championship, where major changes to the PGA Tour calendar were brought forward to the top players.

Hovland is not among those who are not enthusiastic about the new approach.

Viktor Hovland, statements

Regarding this aspect of the new regulation, some time ago he declared: “I think in a particular year each of us can make it work quite easily” “But I hope that in my future career I won’t be forced to plan a calendar where I have to play 23, 24 or 25 certain tournaments every year.” In reality, the DP World Tour players who, like him, are among the top players already have a total of 17 tournaments to take part in.

The scheduled 13 from the PGA Tour plus the four on the European Tour to retain the card. Hovland just attended the WM Phoenix Open, one of the elevated events he is required to enter under the Player Impact Program. On the sidelines of the race, in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Aftenpoften, he once again addressed the topic.

“I think there is no dispute that many of the changes introduced by the PGA Tour are caused by the advent of LIV Golf”. To a direct question on the hypothesis of signing now with the Saudi League, he replied: “Nothing is excluded.

I just try to do what’s best for me and my business, but you never know what the future holds.” “But LIV has a long way to go, to be honest” “Today, I want to continue playing here, where the strongest players are” “I think the best thing for my golf is if I stay on the PGA Tour.”
