Andy Murray splits with his super coach Ivan Lendl. The relationship between the Scottish champion and the former Czech champion broke down for the third time during his professional career. The 36-year-old from Glasgow has had a season of ups and downs.
The three challenger titles (Aix En Provence, Surbiton and Nottingham) and the newfound top 50 were not enough to keep the relationship between the two alive. The last period has certainly not been very brilliant for Murray.
Back among the top 50, the former number one has not had the same continuity in higher category tournaments. Defeats in the second round at Wimbledon and the US Open, combined with the last string of defeats before closing the season, contributed to the divorce between the two.
Now his team will consist of Johny O’Mara, Mark Hilton and Louis Cayer. Murray and Lendl have been a winning combination in past collaborations. Ivan’s contribution meant a lot to the British tennis player, who managed to win 3 Slams (2 Wimbledon and 1 US Open) in the era of the Big 3, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, sneaking into a small club together with they called Fab 4.
