Brentford v West Ham LIVE commentary: Hammers winless in six and head to west London in desperate need of a boost as Bees look to dispatch them again

Brentford host West Ham in the FA Cup on Saturday, with the two London clubs in contrasting form but both looking for cup glory.

The Bees are 11 points clear of the relegation zone after their excellent 3-1 win over Liverpool and are perfectly placed to launch a cup run.

Meanwhile, the Hammers haven’t won any of their last six games in normal time and are in desperate need of a win to boost their confidence.

David Moyes has looked increasingly frustrated in recent months and his side lost 2-0 to the Bees on the 30th of December, so will be out for revenge.

Brentford v West Ham: Team news

Ivan Toney could return to Brentford’s starting XI after he was rested as a precaution against Liverpool.

But Aaron Hickey, Shandon Baptiste and Kristoffer Ajer remain doubts, with Josh Dasilva in line for a possible start.

Meanwhile, Alphonse Areola is expected to start in goal for the Irons, while Ben Johnson might come into the side for the injured Vladimir Coufal.

Michail Antonio, Said Benrahma and Angelo Ogbonna will also hope to be involved.

Brentford v West Ham: What has been said?

West Ham boss David Moyes: “We had a great thrill this year about winning our games in Europe and topping the group as we did last year.

“Last season, we had a really good run in the League Cup, where we beat both Manchester City and Manchester United.

“It’s really important to do it.

“I think ask the majority of the managers and their bread and butter is the Premier League. It’s the most important thing.

“But winning a cup and getting a run for the supporters is equally as important. You’re trying to give them good games and days they remember. And I’d love to be able to do that.”

Brentford v West Ham: Match facts

  • This will be the first meeting between Brentford and West Ham United in the FA Cup since the 1926-27 season. The Bees, then of the Third Division South, won 2-0 in a fourth round replay against a top-flight Hammers outfit.
  • West Ham have won two of their 12 away matches against Brentford in all competitions (D5 L5), last winning there in March 1953 in a second tier match.
  • Brentford have won just one of their last 19 FA Cup matches against top-flight opponents (D4 L14), a 2-1 win over Sunderland in January 2006. They were eliminated last season by Everton.
  • West Ham United have been eliminated in each of their last seven all London FA Cup ties, most recently at the hands of AFC Wimbledon in 2018-19. They last knocked a London side back in February 1989, a 1-0 away win at Charlton.
  • West Ham manager David Moyes has progressed from nine of his last 11 FA Cup third round ties, knocking out Leeds last season. His only previous cup tie with Brentford saw his Everton side go out on penalties in a League Cup third round tie in September 2010 after a 1-1 draw.
