“I stopped playing for 5 years”

Martina Trevisan is finding herself at ease on the surface of the Spanish tournament, in which she defeated Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. On clay she is expressing herself at high levels and at the WTA 1000 in Madrid she demonstrated it again by reaching the third round of the main draw.

The Italian player told herself in an interesting interview with Punto de Break, also focusing on her story.

Martina Trevisan: “I stopped playing for 5 years”

She told: “I stopped playing tennis for five seasons, from 16 to 20.

That’s the main reason I came in a bit later than the others. During that stage I didn’t compete, until I decided to come back and start from scratch. I perfectly remember the sensations I had when I played a game again almost five years later.

I felt happy, I really enjoyed it. Since then, all I’ve tried is to be better than the day before.” Last year, among the various excellent results, the Italian reached the semifinals of the Roland Garros. An important goal that you will have to try to confirm in order not to lose too much ground in the ranking.

She added: “I did very well in 2022, I have fantastic memories of my stay in Paris, my first semifinal in a Grand Slam tournament. Now I have to focus only on this tournament. Then I will be able to think about Rome and then I will arrive in Paris, where I hope to arrive in my best shape.

Normally I don’t pay much attention to the rankings, neither when things are going well, nor when things are more negative. Of course, I’m very satisfied with my entire journey, for all the commitment I’ve given over the years.

I’m just trying to get through. Pressure is good for an athlete, it means you’ve done well in the past. Otherwise you wouldn’t hear any of it. My thinking is that I can always do better.”
