World Cup stars Alexis Mac Allister, Kylian Mbappe foe Sofyan Amrabat, and Liverpool transfer target Enzo Fernandez see price tags sky-rocket

The world’s biggest shop window has now closed in time for Christmas, and Europe’s top sides will be putting together their wish lists.

Billionaire owners across the globe will be taking up the role of Santa Claus as they run down their January transfer targets, and may baulk at the price increases post-World Cup.

A number of names will be attracting huge interest

But that’s what the tournament does best, with teams often left with egg on their faces for taking too much from a handful of games.

However, in modern football, every name in Qatar would have already been extensively scouted.

That means it’s more a question how much targets’ prices have shot up, rather than if they’ve just emerged.

And for a number of Doha’s finest, that figure may only continue to skyrocket as they get back to club action, meaning now might be the best time to act.

But who will clubs be regretting that they didn’t move for last summer?

Well there’s a number of names whose values are now at a premium.

Alexis Mac Allister

He was already steadily increasing in stature for Brighton with a superb start to the season, but now he’s borderline household name status after becoming the Seagulls’ first World Cup winner.

The 23-year-old midfielder was a key cog in allowing his team, and in particular, Lionel Messi to flourish, with his tireless work and superbly intelligent running earning him legendary status in Argentina.

Brighton have absolutely done it again, as they did with the likes of Ben White, Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma, and they could well shatter their record sale again with Mac Allister.

Ahead of the tournament Mac Allister was rated at £27million by transfermarkt for a goalscoring start to the season, now he won’t be let go for at least £50m.

Sofyan Amrabat

For old school football lovers, Amrabat’s crunching tackle on Kylian Mbappe in Morocco’s World Cup semi-final loss to France was a tournament highlight, but for the Fiorentina midfielder, it was just another day in the office.

Amrabat set the tone throughout Morocco’s historic run to the final-four and as his side became everyone’s second team, he became their favourite midfielder.

With a contract running to 2025, clubs may well be convinced to move for Amrabat as soon as January with his £8m market value set to double, if not triple, as teams search for defensive midfield reinforcements.

Randal Kolo Muani

Kolo Muani wasn’t expected to be anywhere near France’s World Cup squad despite some brief Nations League showings, but as their injury crisis deepened, he quickly became a star.

In fact, if it wasn’t for the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, Les Bleus may have had no chance against Argentina as the 41st minute sub brought them back into the game.

Having earlier scored against Morocco in the semis, Kolo Muani won a penalty out of nowhere to get France going in the final, and almost won it for them in extra time.

Frankfurt paid Nantes a fee in the region of £13m for the 24-year-old earlier this year, and with a five-year contract, it’s going to cost a lot to remove him.

However, he already has five goals and nine assists in 14 Bundesliga games, showing that his pre-tournament value of £27m could very soon be far closer to record numbers.

Enzo Ferndandez

Portuguese teams absolutely love unearthing gems, and it appears Benfica might have outdone themselves with Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.

The midfielder began the tournament as a substitute before forcing his way into the line-up and putting in a display for the ages during the final win over France.

Fernandez found teammate after teammate despite being put under intense pressure, and barely got a pass or tackle wrong in an absolutely sumptuous display.

What’s even more outstanding is Fernandez’s outrageous talent going forward which he showcased with a stunning goal against Mexico, despite playing as a defensive midfielder.

Benfica paid River Plate just £15m for his services in the summer on a lengthy contract, meaning his £30m valuation could well end up near the £80m mark.
